U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik met with local business and government leaders at an economic roundtable held at the Corinth Town Hall on Thursday, August 22, to discuss technology and business opportunities across Saratoga County.

Hudson River Community Credit Union CEO Susan Commanda was among the participants invited to attend the meeting. Other attendees included State Senator Daphne Jordan, Assemblyman Dan Stec, Corinth Mayor Dennis Morreale, Corinth Supervisor Richard Lucia as well as business representatives from the Center for Economic Growth, the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce and GlobalFoundries.

While there was a wide-range of economic topics discussed during the hour-long roundtable, the two issues that dominated the discussion were the lack of transportation and poor cellular service for both employers and jobseekers in the North Country.

“It was great to see business and government leaders join together to discuss some of the economic issues facing Saratoga County and how we can work together to resolve them,” said Commanda. “While we are currently seeing strong economic performance in the Capital Region as a whole, there is still a lot we can do to ensure that businesses and the public have the tools and resources they need to compete in the workforce of the future.”

During the meeting, Stefanik offered to work with attendees to obtain federal grants supporting local economic endeavors including new infrastructure to help with workforce development needs in the region.

“I think today we took an important step forward in working together as leaders in our communities to address some of the obstacles facing both employers and jobseekers in the North Country,” Commanda added. “Some of the transportation, infrastructure and technology issues that we discussed have been longstanding areas of improvement needed to move business opportunities forward in our region.”
